| The 2202 cathetometer
consists of a telescope mounted on a carriage which runs on a square brass bar. The lower
end of the bar is fitted with a sleeve which runs in an accurately ground gunmetal bush in
the cast iron tripod base. The base has three levelling screws. The bar can be turned
manually with respect to the base and this rotation can be finally adjusted by means of a
fine thread tangent screw. A scale is cut directly into the brass column and the position of the telescope is determined by means of a vernier scale which is attached to it. A magnifier is fitted to the carriage to simplify reading the scales. The carriage is positioned manually on the column and can be clamped to it. Final height adjustment is carried out by by means of a fine adjustment screw, which operates an auxilliary slide attached to the main carriage. The telescope unit is mounted to this auxilliary slide, and means are provided for levelling the optical axis. |
